Over the course of 11 songs, Monomials’ debut album explores evocative landscapes of hope, regret, and resolve, with a cast of first-person characters stepping in and out of the shadows. Featuring strings, horns, mallet percussion, and imaginative production, it’s an arresting introduction to Richard Keith’s distinctive songwriting voice.

Somewhere between
indie rock and Americana

Monomials supports Richard Keith’s compelling lyrical point of view with inventive arrangements that draw on a variety of traditions. The band’s roots are in acoustic music, with mandolin and upright bass evoking bluegrass and Americana. But band members also bring to the table classical training, jazz and musical theatre chops, and a shared passion for indie rock. The resulting blend is a colorful, arresting sound that sets the scene for evocative, sometimes surreal storytelling.

“I think about it every day.
I guess that’s the price I’ll have to pay.”
